Hurricane Helene

The Western North Carolina Journalism Foundation is heartbroken at the destruction and loss of life and livelihoods Hurricane Helene brought to our region. We applaud the many hands collectively working to help people and communities recover. We are particularly proud of the community of local journalists and locally owned news outlets providing much needed information to residents at this critical time. The need for a strong news ecosystem in our region couldn’t be clearer. Below you can find links to their on-going coverage. We are also thankful for the support of the NC Local News Workshop, who has been gathering resources from across the state to support our news outlets.

We encourage direct financial aid to the local outlets listed below or to WNCJF as we work to create a pooled fund for the region. Click on the DONATE button above. If you are a local news outlet in WNC and need support, please email barbara@wncjf.org or call 828-351-9891.

We will build back stronger, together.
